Images FAQ

Questions about using the images

Can I use these images in my classroom?

Yes. All diagrams, infographics and quote cards made by PhilosophyTheGuide are free to use for educational purposes as long as you keep the credit line. Artworks are public domain — check the photo source before reuse and credit the artist, title and date. See the Creative Commons licence overview ↗ for details on what free-with-credit means in practice.

What credit line do I need to include?

The credit line is shown on every image detail panel and can be copied with one click. For our own images it reads: [Image title] — PhilosophyTheGuide, [LICENCE]. For public domain artworks, credit the artist, title, date and the photo source you used. The Wikimedia Commons ↗ is a reliable free source for public domain artwork photos.

Can I use the images on social media or in blog posts?

Yes — our diagrams, infographics and quote cards are free for social media and blog use with the credit line. Quote cards are designed to be shared as-is. For commercial use, check the specific licence noted on each image or contact us for a commercial licence. Classic artworks are public domain, so there are no restrictions on the image itself, but verify the photo licence separately.

Where do the classic artworks come from?

The paintings featured here are old enough to be in the public domain in most jurisdictions. High-quality reproductions are available on Wikimedia Commons ↗ and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's open access collection ↗. Always check the specific photo licence at your source — the painting may be public domain, but a photograph of it can carry its own rights.
